Chicago man blames Blue Island medical facility for relative's death

CHICAGO–A Cook County man is suing Blue Island Clinic Company LCC, alleging it failed to treat his relative’s mental illness properly, leading him to commit suicide.

Trent Montgomery, independent administrator of the estate of Edward Montgomery, filed a lawsuit Nov. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Blue Island Clinic Co. and Dr. Claudette Macklin, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 18, 2013, Edward Montgomery experienced insomnia, delirium, depression and suicidal thoughts as the anniversary of his wife’s death approached. The suit says the defendants’ failure to order an emergency intervention and other appropriate measures to treat Montgomery’s mental health condition.

Edward Montgomery committed suicide Dec. 1, 2013. 

Trent Montgomery seeks damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Douglas Hopson of The Hopson Firm PC in Chicago.
