Husband blames Buffalo Grove health facility for wife’s wrongful death

Dementia

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing a Buffalo Grove health facility, alleging wrongful death in a dispute involving his late wife.

Willard Clauser, special administrator of the estate of Barbara Clauser, filed a lawsuit Dec. 7 against Claremont Extended Healthcare LLC, doing business as Claremont Rehab & Living Center, alleging violations of the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Barbara Clauser, suffering from dementia, fell eight times during her stay at Claremont in 2013-14, causing a broken nose, facial injuries and a left hip fracture. The suit says Clauser also became dependent on opioid painkillers and developed an unstageable pressure ulcer of the coccyx.

The plaintiff alleges the injuries, which led to her mental and physical deterioration, were caused by the defendant’s negligence. Barbara Clauser died Sept. 27, 2014.

Clauser seeks a six-person jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Terrence E. Davey of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court Case number 2015-L012343.
