Woman alleges doctor’s negligence caused sister’s cardiac death

Heart care

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing a doctor, alleging he delayed treating her sister’s heart condition, leading to her death.

Kathy Marconi, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Bridgette Gregory, filed a lawsuit Dec. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. N. Haluk Kitapci, alleging medical malpractice and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Gregory suffered from an enlarged heart and other cardiac complaints as far back as 1998. The suit says when Kitapci treated her in July 2006 for heart palpitations and rapid pulse, he ordered Gregory to undergo an EKG at his office three days later. However, the complaint states, Gregory was found unresponsive July 29, 2006, and passed away that same day.

The plaintiff alleges Kitapci failed to properly examine and evaluate Gregory’s heart condition, and should have sent her to the emergency room when he examined her July 26, 2013. The suit says the three-day delay for an EKG cost Gregory her life.

Marconi seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Stephanie K. Nathanson and Michael T. Peterson of the Law Offices of Stephanie K. Nathanson in Chicago.
