CHICAGO — A tugboat crew member working for the City of Chicago says he suffered serious, permanent injuries in a 2014 accident at work.
Richard Mika filed a lawsuit Feb. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen & Associates LLC; F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen Inc.; Cobra Concrete Cutting Services Co.; Romero Steel Company Inc.; and JB Erectors Inc.; alleging negligence and personal injury liability.
According to the complaint, the defendants were general contractors and construction managers for a project at the boat docks on the south side of the Jardine Water Purification Plant. The suit says that Mika was injured on April 24, 2014 when he tried to access a mooring line that had become trapped between the concrete boat dock and a fender newly installed by the defendants. Mika claims the defendants should have returned the mooring line to its proper position after the fender was installed.
Mika seeks damages in excess of $30,000 for medical expenses and lost earnings, plus litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Matthew W. Miller of Hetherington, Karpel, Bobber & Miller LLC in Chicago.
