Couple accuse remodelers of shoddy work

Unfinished remodel

CHICAGO — A Cook County couple say the firm they hired to remodel their home left numerous defects in materials and workmanship, leaving the home uninhabitable.

John and Caroline Chambers filed a lawsuit Feb. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Pryor Construction Inc., alleging breach of contract, fraud and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs hired Pryor Construction in 2013 to perform a gut rehab of the house on property they own in Cook County. Although the work was completed by July 2014, the suit claims the house contains defective cabinetry, a leaking shower that required mold removal, roof leaks, flooding by the rear basement door, insufficient bricking of the chimney, and many other alleged defects. The plaintiffs claim their demands for corrective work have been ignored by Pryor Construction. Estimates place the cost of repairs at more than $62,000, the claim states.

The plaintiffs seek damages in excess of $50,000 to be proven at trial, plus interest and litigation costs. They are represented by attorneys Carter A. Korey and Ryan D. Gibson of Korey Richardson LLC in Chicago.
