CHICAGO — A customer is suing a Chicago pharmacy and one of its employees after he allegedly was given the wrong medicine and had an allergic reaction.
Bernard Franklin filed a complaint on Feb. 25 in the Cook Circuit Court against pharmacist M. Abdullah and Elsdon Medical Pharmacy, alleging that they wrongly dispensed medicine that contains sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (Bactrim DS), which he is allergic to.
The plaintiff alleges that Abdullah failed to ask him if he was allergic to sulfa before wrongly dispensing medication to him on March 5, 2015. As a result, he allegedly suffered an allergic reaction, and had to be admitted to the hospital where he was diagnosed with mild Stevens Johnson Syndrome and acute renal failure brought on by the reaction. Franklin alleges that as a result of Abdullah's negligence, he now is in total renal failure that was brought on by the allergic reaction to sulfa.
The plaintiff seeks compensation for total money damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by Susan E. Loggans of Susan E. Loggans & Associates PC in Chicago.
