Suit against nursing home alleges wrongful death

Nursing home room

CHICAGO — The independent executor of a deceased man's estate is suing a nursing home, alleging negligence and wrongful death.

Veronica Jeffries sued Southpoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Feb. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging that the facility violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act by failing to provide adequate supervision and assistance to prevent a fall by her brother, resident Michael Guillory.

The plaintiff alleges that, on March 26, 2014, Guillory fell and fractured his hip, and the suit further claims that Guillory was not properly assessed or transferred to a hospital in a timely fashion after he complained of pain the next day. The plaintiff claims the injury and surgical repair caused or contributed to cause Guillory's death.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000. She is represented by Bella Feinstein of The Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.
