Parents allege prescribed morphine was cause of son's death

Medical malpractice 06

CHICAGO – The parents of a teen have filed a wrongful death suit against several physicians, pharmacies and health care facilities.

Christine Steinbacher, Tom Steinbacher Sr., as co-administrator of the estate of Samuel Steinbacher, filed a complaint on April 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., Walgreen Co., Walgreens Pharmacy No. 07212, Jane Doe Pharmacist SSV, Loyola University Medical Center Co., Dr. Meda Raghavendra, Dr. Saad Kamal, Dr. David Yoo, Dr. Robert J. Barnes, Dr. Mark Speyer, unknown John Doe LUMC employees, agents and servants alleging medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that in April 22, 2014, Samuel Steinbacher suffered and died of morphine intoxication, as confirmed the next day by the Office of the Coroner of Dupage County. The suit states that morphine had been prescribed to him for pain. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the instructions for the drug's use on the label were incorrectly transcribed and did not reflect the instructions provided to the pharmacy by the prescribing physician. They also allege that the morphine was negligently prescribed and did not advise of the warnings of the dangers of taking the drug.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgement against defendants for compensatory damages of more than $50,000, costs incurred, post-judgment interest and for such other relief that the court may deem just and proper. They are represented by Paris Alexander Tsangaris of The Paris Law Group PC in Naperville.
