Shopper alleges food store's negligence caused her injuries

Slip01

CHICAGO — A customer is suing a food store business, alleging its negligence caused her to suffer injuries.

Bobbie Garrett filed a lawsuit May 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Ultra Foods, alleging negligence, failure to warn and wrongful acts of omissions.

According to the complaint, on March 6, 2015, Garrett was shopping at the Ultra Foods at 16831 Torrance Ave., Lansing, when a bottle of bleach fell from the store display onto the floor, splashing bleach on her face. As a result, the suit says, she was severely and permanently injured both externally and internally.

The plaintiff alleges Ultra Foods negligently failed to maintain the bleach display in a safe place, negligently stacked the bleach at a dangerous height and negligently failed to warn her.

Garrett seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, compensation for injuries and damages suffered, plus costs of suit. She is represented by attorney Jack M. Shapiro of Law Office of Daniel E. Goodman LLC in Rosemont.
