CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing two health care providers, alleging negligence led to a relative's death.
Andrea Morrison, as special administrator of the estate of Jeanette Morrison, filed a lawsuit May 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cook County, doing business as John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Advocate-Illinois Masonic Medical Center, alleging negligent omission and wrongful death in the death of Jeanette Morrison.
According to the complaint, between June 17-July 22, 2009, Jeanette Morrison was a patient at Stroger Hospital for medical treatment and services. She later was a patient at Advocate-Illinois Masonic between Aug. 10-21, 2009. During these periods, the suit says, she developed decubitus ulcers, a condition that worsened and contributed to her death Sept. 9, 2009.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to promptly take preventive measures, failed to prevent progression of decubitus ulcers, failed to apply appropriate measures and treatment, and failed to adequately notify a treating physician of Morrison's condition.
Andrea Morrison seeks a trial by jury, damages of more than $30,000 to compensate the next kin for their losses under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Jesse Gonzalez of the Law Offices of Meyer and Blumenshine in Chicago.
