CHICAGO — A daughter is suing a Blue Island medical facility, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent her mother's injuries and death.
Hannah Hartley, as independent administrator for the estate of Henrietta Hartley, filed a lawsuit April 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against MSMC Investors LLC, doing business as a Metrosouth Medical Center in Blue Island, alleging negligence and wrongful death in the treatment of Henrietta Hartley.
According to the complaint, between April 27-May 20, 2014, Henrietta Hartley was a patient at Metrosouth Medical Center due to slurred speech and weakness on the right side. On April 30, 2014, the suit says, she fell in her room, resulting in right hip fracture and an increased risk for the development of pressure sores.
The lawsuit states these all contributed to Hartley's death Dec. 7, 2014, and that her next of kind all suffered loss of companionship, grief and sorrow.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to appropriately asses Hartley's condition, failed to appropriately implement a care plan to address her risk for falls and injuries, failed to provide adequate supervision, failed to provide assistive devices and failed to provide preventive measures.
Hannah Hartley seeks a trial by jury and judgment of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Jordan S. Powell of Levin & Perconti in Chicago, and Gerald J. Bekkerman of Bekkerman Law Offices in Chicago.
