Woman says lisp, pain among results of negligence

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Michael J. Zak, D.D.S., individually and as agent/ employee of Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial and Implant Surgery Ltd., and Associates for Oral, Maxillofacial and Implant Surgery Ltd., alleging negligence in dental care.

Jennifer Dolewski Schwab filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide her with proper dental treatment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 2009 during wisdom teeth extraction, she suffered transection of her right lingual nerve, leading to persistent numbness, tongue pain, a lisp, permanent loss of control of tongue movement and impaired ability to taste food. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for an alleged failure to properly evaluate her condition and for carelessly performing a procedure that caused damages to her lingual nerve.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of the minimal jurisdictional limits of the court plus court costs. She is represented by Brian W. Coffman of Coffman Law Offices, P.C. in Chicago and William Lazarus of Law Offices of William Lazarus in Oakland, California.
