Woman claims staple was left in ankle after surgery

Medical malpractice 03

CHICAGO — A patient is suing Specialty Physicians of Illinois LLC and Robert Coats II, M.D., alleging negligence in medical care.

Pamela Reed filed a complaint on Aug. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide her with proper medical care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 2013, she suffered a severe infection because a staple was left in her right ankle after surgery. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to remove all the staples before applying "Steri-Strips" over her surgical wound.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for an amount in excess of $50,000 and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Frank J. Andreou of Andreou & Casson, Ltd. in Chicago.
