Man says lumber fell on him at Menards store

CHICAGO — A man is suing home improvement retailer Menards, saying he was injured when lumber fell on him at a local store.

Christopher Novak filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Wisconsin-based Menard Inc. alleging negligence, liability and insufficient measures taken to prevent injuries.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug 28, 2014, he sustained physical injuries when lumber fell on him. The plaintiff holds Menard Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide a brace or any device that would be able to properly secure the stacked lumber on its store.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant of more than $50,000, but less than $75,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Rhonda L. Walker of Rhonda L. Walker in Chicago.
