Roseland Community Hospital, others accused of allowing injuries to newborn

CHICAGO — A mother is suing a doctor, identified as Joy Beth West; medical practice Calumet Physicians Associates Ltd.; and Roseland Community Hospital, alleging her newborn daughter suffered injuries in their care.

Tara Lewis filed a complaint on Aug. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to properly evaluate the health of her daughter in utero.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2015, her daughter sustained severe and permanent injuries as a result of hypoxia. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly evaluate conditions relating to her unborn child and failing to provide appropriate care.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Devon C. Bruce of Power, Rogers & Smith in Chicago.
