Ingalls Memorial Hospital, employees accused of having vomiting woman wrongly arrested for battery

CHICAGO — A patient is suing Ingalls Memorial Hospital and two hospital employees, alleging malicious prosecution, false arrest and assault, after the hospital employees allegedly sought charges against her for spitting on an employee, when she had only vomited.

Sheena Hancock filed a complaint on Sept. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that in December 2015, she was arrested and incarcerated due to false charges against her in connection with the purportedly misunderstood vomiting incident. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly made a false claim and had her arrested and charged with aggravated battery, which culminated in a finding of not guilty.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than the jurisdictional limits of the court plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Dean J. Caras, of Chicago.
