Northwestern Medical Group accused of missing stroke signs

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A deceased man's family has filed a wrongful death claim against a doctor, identified as Larry Kaskel, M.D.; the Northwestern Medical Group; and Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group, alleging negligence in medical care.

Karen Longobardi, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Vincent Longobardi, filed a complaint on Oct. 20, in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Vincent Longobardi.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Longobardi was showing symptoms of a stroke – which ultimately killed him – during medical visits at which those signs were missed. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to timely diagnose Longobardi's risk of stroke and apply the necessary treatment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Thomas H. Murphy of Cogan & Power, P.C. in Chicago.
