Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, others accused of failing to diagnose cancer

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — A deceased woman's family has filed a wrongful death claim against Mercy Hospital and Medical Center; doctors, identified as Jose DiMauro, M.D., Reina M. Tarabey, M.D. and Anita L. Ong, M.D.; and medical practices Pathology Consultants of Chicago Ltd. and Pathology Associates of Chicago Ltd., alleging negligence in medical care.

Jasmine Hodges, independent administrator of the estate of Rose Hodges, filed a complaint on Oct. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide proper medical care to Rose Hodges.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges a biopsy of tissue from Rose Hodges' tongue should have been diagnosed as likely malignant, but was not. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly diagnose Rose Hodges' condition, leading to a later diagnosis of cancer.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of the jurisdictional limit of the court. She is represented by Bridget Duignan of Latherow & Duignan in Chicago.
