Philip Morris USA Inc., others allegedly failed to properly warn man about dangers of smoking cigarettes

CHICAGO — A man is suing Philip Morris USA Inc., RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, Liggett Group LLC and several other companies, citing alleged negligence.

David P. Dowdle filed a complaint on April 17 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants sold and distributed cigarettes without warning him about the dangers of being exposed to cigarette smoke.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer due to smoking cigarettes that were designed, manufactured, advertised, marketed, distributed and sold by the defendants. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to take reasonable precautions or exercise reasonable care to adequately or sufficiently warn him about the risks of smoking cigarettes.
