Widow of man who died of heart failure on trading floor sues CME

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — A woman is suing CME Group Inc., Glenstar Asset Management LLC, Chicago BT Property LLC, Glenstar Properties LLC and Chicago BT Property TRS LLC for alleged negligence.

Ann Grant, special administrator of the estate of David Grant, filed a complaint on April 25 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging her husband, David Grant, went into atrial defibrillation on April 25, 2016. However, the defendants' only defibrillator was located on the other side of the defendants' trading floor. The plaintiff alleges that her husband died as a result of not receiving immediate medical attention.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to adequately place defibrillators in its trading room floor, properly train its nursing and medical staff to timely respond to emergencies, ensure that emergency medical personnel had direct access from outside the building and for allegedly failing to permit the traders' workstation phones to dial external numbers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by John M. Power and Hadas Benhamou, of the firm of Cogan & Power PC in Chicago.
