Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, others allegedly failed to provide woman with proper medical care while in labor

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, KishHealth System, Kishwaukee Community Hospital Inc., Kishwaukee Physician Group Inc., Dr. Oluwakemi Edokpayi and a nurse for alleged medical malpractice.

Terajae Lucas filed a complaint on May 3 in the Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants failed to provide her with proper medical care while giving birth.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly monitor her during labor, detect signs of fetal distress and timely perform a Caesarean section. The plaintiff claims her child suffered a hypoxic-ischemic brain injury as a result of the defendants' alleged actions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for damages in an amount that exceeds $50,000. She is represented by Donald A. Shapiro and Matthew R. Basinger of Donald A. Shapiro Ltd. in Chicago.
