CHICAGO – A North Carolina woman is seeking damages from a Chicago-based distributor for a French company over allegations a surgical mesh caused her injuries.

Regina Forte filed a complaint on Sept. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against Aspide Medical and BG Medical LLC, alleging strict liability, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was implanted with Apside Surgimesh XB to repair a hernia in 2011. She alleges because of the device, she experienced pain, mesh migration, an incarcerated bowel and had to undergo removal surgery on Oct. 2, 2014.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to warn patients, physicians and medical community about the risks of their product and distributed, supplied and sold the hernia repair mesh knowing that it may cause serious medical problems.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in an amount in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits. She is represented by Allen N. Schwartz of Kravolec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago and Robert L. Salim and Lisa Causey-Streete of Salim-Beasley LLC in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
