Man says Fireplace Inn didn't prevent attack by allegedly drunken patron

CHICAGO — A  man is suing the Fireplace Inn tavern, saying they didn't protect him from being attacked and thrown to the ground by another drunk patron.

Matthew Stacho filed a complaint on March 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Fireplace Inn, 1448 N. Wells St., Chicago, and a man identified as William Garrett Leahy.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges on Sept. 8, 2018, when the plaintiff was at the tavern when Leahy allegedly attacked him, and the tavern's security personnel did nothing to stop or prevent the attack.

The plaintiff is seeking damages, plus attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jennifer P. Irmen of the Irmen Law Group LLC in Chicago.
