Medical transport company employed convicted felon accused of fatally shooting 2 patients

CHICAGO — The administrators of two estates have sued on behalf of a couple who were allegedly slain by a convicted felon who was working for a medical transportation company.

Charlotte Johnson, as independent administrator to collect for the estate of decedent Ira Moore; and Tara Brooks, as independent administrator of the estate of decedent Tommie Moore, filed a complaint on March 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against MV Transportation Inc. and Roger Scoby.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on March 30, 2017 when the plaintiff was being provided transportation services by defendant MV Transportation. Defendant Scoby, who had been previously convicted of several violent felonies, has confessed to Bewyn police that he fatally shot both plaintiffs.

The defendant is accused of negligent hiring, negligent retention, negligent training, negligent supervision and wrongful death.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs and trial by jury. The plaintiff is represented by Kristin Barnette McCathy of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.

The Cook County Circuit Court Case No. is 2019-L-003379.
