CHICAGO — A Chicago lawyer is suing a Bannockburn law firm, accusing the firm of costing him hundreds of thousands of dollars by not representing him properly in his divorce proceedings.
Robert C. Heist, of the firm of R. Connor & Associates PC, filed a complaint on Aug. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against Katz, Goldstein & Warren PC, the estate of Stephen H. Katz, Ilene B. Goldstein, Todd R. Warren and Rosemary R. Alexander, alleging professional negligence and breach of an agreement.
According to the complaint, the defendants failed to represent Heist as they were required to as his legal representatives, particularly in challenging the financial and income assertions made by Heist's former wife during the divorce proceedings in Lake County Circuit Court. The defendants' failure to act, the suit alleges, caused the plaintiff to suffer losses of more than $500,000, including $6,000 a month in alimony, when his wife allegedly owns a viable business of her own.
Heist seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and all other just and appropriate relief. In addition to himself, the plaintiff is represented by attorney David A. Pestell, of the firm of R. Connor & Associates PC in Chicago.
