(CHICAGO, April 26, 2022) … Chicago attorney Gary Gassman, Co-Chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Professional Liability Practice, has also been appointed to Co-Vice Chair of the firm’s Global Insurance Department.
Gassman focuses his practice in the areas of insurance coverage counseling and litigation. For more than 25 years, he has handled cases involving directors’ and officers’ liability, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, other types of professional liability and general liability. Gassman serves as national coverage counsel for several domestic and international insurance clients. He also leads the Cozen O’Connor LGBTQ attorney resource group.

Gassman currently serves as the Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), one of the ABA’s largest sections. He will assume the TIPS Chair position in August, 2022. Previously, he served as TIPS Vice-Chair, and before that, as both the TIPS Diversity Officer and as Co-Chair of the TIPS special standing committee on diversity and inclusion.
A 2009 graduate of the TIPS Leadership Academy, Gassman has also served on the TIPS Council (the Section’s governing body) and has held leadership positions in several of the section’s general and standing committees and task forces.
In 2021, Gassman was recognized, for the second time, as one of the year’s “Notable Gen X Leaders in Law” by Crain’s Chicago Business for his success and accomplishments in leadership roles within the firm and across the legal community. He is also regularly selected by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in Insurance Law and Litigation – Insurance. In addition, Gassman was recently profiled by both the LGBT Bar Association and the Chicago Lawyer Magazine.
Gassman is licensed to practice in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Arizona. He received a B.A. from Indiana University in 1990 and a J.D. from University of Illinois School of Law in 1993.
