In a dramatic legal battle unfolding in Cook County, Illinois, a truck driver is taking on some of the biggest names in electronics and transportation. The lawsuit, filed by Luis Rodriguez Perez on April 8, 2025, targets Sony Corporation of America and its subsidiaries along with CSX Intermodal Inc., among others. The complaint accuses these corporations of negligence that led to severe injuries sustained by Perez while performing his duties as a truck driver.

The incident at the heart of this case occurred on April 11, 2023. Perez was dispatched to pick up a shipping container from the CSX Chicago Intermodal Facility in Illinois. According to the complaint, the container belonged to one or more of the Sony defendants and was equipped with a GPS tracking device that was improperly secured. Upon arriving at the Sony Terre Haute Facility in Indiana, Perez opened the container as instructed by Sony personnel. Tragically, a 20-pound GPS unit fell from the ceiling inside the container, striking him on the head and rendering him unconscious.

Perez's lawsuit alleges multiple counts of negligence against Sony Corporation of America, Sony Electronics Inc., and Sony DADC US Inc., asserting that these entities failed to ensure their shipping containers were safe for handling. "Sony America owed a duty of reasonable care," states the complaint, accusing them of failing to secure or inspect the GPS tracking unit properly. The suit also extends similar accusations towards CSX Intermodal Inc., claiming they did not adequately inspect or secure containers before transport.

Moreover, unidentified John Doe Corporations are also named in the suit for potentially being involved in designing or manufacturing faulty components related to the GPS unit. The plaintiff argues that these failures constitute violations under various negligence laws due to their direct role in causing his injuries.

Perez seeks damages exceeding $50,000 from each defendant for medical expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering resulting from what he describes as preventable harm caused by corporate negligence. He further demands accountability through vicarious liability principles for any employees or agents involved.

Representing Perez is attorney Laura Ferrigno from Ferrigno Law Firm LLC alongside Jerome Schachter & Associates Ltd., who emphasize their client's right to compensation given his life-altering injuries allegedly stemming from corporate oversight failures.

This case will be presided over by judges within Cook County Circuit Court's Law Division under Case ID No: 2025L004802 as it proceeds through initial management stages scheduled via Zoom hearings starting June 3rd next year—a date eagerly anticipated by all parties involved seeking justice amidst complex corporate entanglements.
