A Will County man is suing his former employer over claims it fired him for seeking workers' compensation benefits.

James Skiniotes filed a lawsuit July 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Frank Shirey Cadillac Inc., alleging retaliatory discharge.

According to the complaint, Skiniotes was injured in the scope of his employment as a salesman with Frank Shirey Cadillac in Oak Lawn on July 27, 2013, received workers' compensation benefits and returned to work Nov. 1.

Skiniotes contends his employment was terminated Nov. 15 for an altercation five days earlier, which he asserts was a pretext for Frank Shirey Cadillac to retaliate against him for his workers' comp claim.

Skiniotes is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, lost wages and costs. He is being represented by attorney Jonathan R. Ksiazek of Ed Fox & Associates in Chicago.
