Woman blames Menards for slip and fall over liquid on floor

A woman is suing a home improvement store in Homer Glen, where she claims she injured herself after falling on a liquid substance.

Patricia Kay filed suit July 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Menard Inc.

According to the complaint, Kay was shopping at the defendant's store at 13956 South Bell Road in Homer Glen on Dec. 15, when she fell on an unnatural accumulation of liquid on the floor. As a result of her fall, Kay alleges she incurred medical costs, suffered pain and disability and endured disfigurement.

Kay blames Menards for causing her fall, saying its employees failed to properly inspect the floor, caused the liquid on the floor, failed to clean up the liquid on the floor and didn't warn of the liquid or block off the area.

Kay is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. She is being represented by Chicago attorney Jamie M. Trapp.
