Cook County woman sues doctors over claims of malpractice and improper identification of her ailments

Markham 0071

A Cook County woman is suing her doctors over allegations of malpractice and improper identification of her ailments after a failed bunionectomy.

Gloria Watson of Des Plaines filed suit on Sept. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Illinois Foot & Ankle Clinic Medical Corp., doing business as Illinois Foot & Ankle Clinic; Alexander Yankovskiy, D.P.M.; and Presence Holy Family Medical Center, formerly known as Holy Family Medical Center; and Milton Kondiles, D.P.M., respondent in discovery.

According to the complaint, on April 4, 2013, Watson visited Foot & Ankle Clinic to complain of a continued pain in her left great toe, where she was seen by Yankovskiy, who diagnosed her with hallux abducto valgas and bunion deformity. On Oct. 3, surgery was performed by Yankovskiy, followed by a bunionectomy and arthoplasty second left toe with K wire fixations at Holy Family, also by Yankovskiy.

On Nov. 12, 2013, she went in for a follow-up, where radiology revealed a failed bunionectomy and further surgery was recommended by Yankovskiy, which she also underwent, this time with the assistance of Kondiles. This allegedly led to even more surgeries to rectify various things not suitably addressed in previous surgeries, the complaint states.

The plaintiff is suing for improper performance on behalf of the doctors in question, failure to correctly diagnosis her condition, failure to recommend a qualified specialist, and general carelessness and negligence. She is also suing for severe/permanent injury, pain and suffering, both physical and mental; and medical costs, as well as court costs and attorney fees.

The plaintiff is being represented by Alexander M. Sukhman of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz of Chicago.
