Man sues after fall through skylight

CHICAGO — A man is suing a food distribution company and the owner of the building where that company operations, claiming negligence caused severe injuries.

Jason Topnick is suing building owner Hamilton Partners Inc. and food distributor The Hillshire Brands Co. Topnick filed suit on Feb. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming the defendants failed to ensure the safety of the building in Downers Grove.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on June 26, 2015, he suffered severe personal injuries after falling through a skylight while working on a rooftop air conditioning unit. Topnick holds Hamilton Partners and Hillshire Brands responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to exercise ordinary care for safety by installing a fixed railing system, cover or mesh to guard its rooftop skylight, and by not using skylight material that was strong enough.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000. He is represented by Richard F. Burke Jr. of Clifford Law Offices, P.C. in Chicago in Illinois.
