A group of 65 school bus drivers has filed a class action lawsuit against bus company First Student on behalf of potentially thousands of other bus drivers, claiming the company has made a habit of underpaying its drivers. Attorneys Karl W. Roth and William P. Foley of the Roth Law Group, of Chicago, filed the action Tuesday, Oct. 13, in federal court in Chicago.

A Wheaton couple have filed suit against the city and their neighbor, a suburban housing developer, who the couple alleged have conspired to prevent them from completing an addition to their home. Jatin “Jay” Patel and Dipika Naik, who are Indian, filed the five-count complaint in federal court in Chicago earlier this week, naming as defendants the city, its code official Joe Kreidl and home builder Joseph Keim, owner and president of Keim Corporation.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced the largest civil penalty against an unmanned drone aircraft operator, SkyPan. The agency is fining SkyPan $1.9 million, claiming that between March 21, 2012, and Dec. 15, 2014, SkyPan conducted 65 unauthorized operations in the congested skies of heavily populated cities, including Chicago and New York.

Employees of the Chicago Park District, represented by the Service Employees International Union have challenged the constitutionality of a state law reforming the Park District’s public employee pension fund, which supporters believed would help the district stabilize its pension liabilities. On Oct. 8, SEIU Local 73 and named plaintiffs, Chicago Park District retiree David Biedron and current Chicago Park District employee Heather Kelly, filed suit in Cook County Circuit Court.
